Japan updates Ukrainian industry

The Ministry of Industrial Policy of Ukraine has signed five memorandums with the leading Japanese companies.

As reported in the Office of Media Relations of Secretariat of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, signing of these documents took place during the second general meeting of the Coordinating Council on issues of economic cooperation with the Japan Business Cooperation Committee and "Ukraine - Japan" Japan Business Federation "Keidanren."

Among the signed documents: a memorandum on intentions to pursue the general Ukrainian-Japanese projects for the modernization of mining and metallurgical and chemical complexes, energy machine-building between the Ministry of Industrial Policy of Ukraine and Mitsubishi Company; a memorandum of understanding on a general study on the introduction of energy-saving technologies and technologies for capturing carbon dioxide in the metallurgical and chemical industries between the Ministry of Industrial Policy of Ukraine and the Mitsubishi Corporation; memorandum agreement on cooperation in the development of technical and economic decisions on the project of direct reduction of iron ITmk3 and processing low-grade coal between the Ministry of Industrial Policy of Ukraine and companies Kobe Steel (Japan) and Hares Engeneering GmbH (Austria); Memorandum on intention to implement the common Ukrainian-Japanese projects for the modernization of the chemical complex between the Ministry of Industrial Policy of Ukraine and by Mitsubishi; a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Industrial Policy of Ukraine and Sojitz Corporation.

Speaking at a meeting of the Japan Federation of Business "Kaydanren" head of Ministry of Industrial Policy Vladimir Novitsky noted that the Ministry of Industrial policy developed a list of projects to be implemented. "We are conventionally divided the projects into three main areas: the first - projects in the field of mining and smelting complex, the second - the chemical complex, the third - the development and manufacturing energy efficient equipment," - the minister said.

In particular, Novitskiy explained why focusing on attracting investment in metallurgy and chemistry. According to him, these industries consume the greatest amount of energy, particularly natural gas. Thus, according to the result of last years, the industrial complex used about 28% of natural gas in Ukraine, or about 20 billion cubic meters, in the mining and metallurgical complex - 14%, chemical industry - 11%, mechanical engineering - 3%.

According to the Ministry of Industrial Policy, the total demand of industrial complex of Ukraine investments for technical re-equipment and modernization over the next decade are estimated at 25 billion dollars annually. Among the re-direction - energy efficiency, reduced costs of natural gas, switching to alternative and innovative sources of energy.

As a result, during the meeting of the Coordinating Council to attract Japanese investment fifteen of innovation and investment projects have been proposed totaling nearly 5 billion dollars.
